An important use of Dove (for me the most important) is the inclusion of practice nights. When using the book (and then the database) it became clear that a lot of practice times were missing from Dove and a few were incorrect. It would also have been useful to have Sunday service ringing times. In an attempt to increase the coverage I downloaded the information in guild and church web sites and combined it with Dove. The results were as follows (for simplicity, time and exception differences are ignored in these statistics):
|Web/Dove days agree||2305||41%|
|Web/Dove days differ||296||5%|
|Dove only (not on Web)||165||3%|
|Web only (with day)||1525||27%|
|Web only (vague)||290||5%|
|Hard to compare||129||2%|
|No practice entry||898||16%|
In addition to the practices the list contains 2720 Sunday times and a further 1094 vague Sunday entries (such as "irregular"). There must be a lot of service ringing for which I have no details.
The new data is in the list of links below on this page. In order to reduce the size of the list towers listed in Dove with less than 4 bells are included only if they might have practice or service ringing. Most 'unringable' towers have also been omitted - if your tower should be in the list please let me know. This leaves 5,743 towers.
All information is included: start and end times, exceptions (however complex) and even access details. Where the web and Dove times conflict both entries are shown (as in "[Dove=...]"). Some entries contain "[maybe ...]" or "[was ...]" and these indicate two different times on the web. Blank entries indicate no information - no ringing is shown as "none". It would be nice to resolve the conflicts and fill in the gaps. Entries beginning with a * have been corrected by emails or via Dove since the start of 2005.
The data is in a series of tab-separated text-only files of 50kb or less. Click the initial letter of the required tower in the list below. Each file is sorted by Dove place name then by county. If you're not sure what file to look in, you can use the search facility on this site.
